Step 1: Click on the start button.

Step 2: Type “Disk Defragmenter” in the search box.

Step 3: When you find the option, click on it to open.

Step 4: In the “Current status”, choose the disk you want to defragment.

Step 5: Now click on the “Analyze Disk” to understand if the disk needs to defragment or not.

If the System asks you for any password or confirmation, type or provide the confirmation.

Step 6: Once you finish analyzing the disk, you can check the percentage of fragmentation on the disk in the Last Run column. If it shows greater than 10 percent, then you should defragment the disk.

Step 7: Now click on the Defragment disk option. If you are again promoted for an Administration password or confirmation, give the password r provide the information.

Step 8: Defragmentation may take several minutes. This time, spend depends on the disk volume of your hard disk. You can use your computer during the defragmentation process.

Step 1: Click on the charms bar and search for “Optimize Drives”. Defragmenter feature has been renamed as Optimize Drive in Windows 8.

Step 3: Select the drive that you want to defrag and check its Last Run Column.

Step 4: If it shows above 10% then click on optimize disk.

Step 5: The defragmentation process will start and will be done automatically.
